using my story boards



i used my storyboards when filming my music video so i had an idea of what shot i needed to film and also to see what camera angle i needed and also to tell me the duration of the time the clip was going to be. using your planning documents whilst filming is a helpful way because you understand and stay on the topic of what the storyboard tells you to filming basically its a guideline to help you not forget what shots you need to film.

Hi my name is Nathan Tidman and I currently work for attack promo firstly the company I work for create music videos and help promote artist to their audience. The music videos will always focus on the artist this is so the audience know what and who the artist is to also allow the artist to make a bigger name for themselves .
We also promote the artist by putting clips of their live concerts into the music videos to make a stronger connection with their fans. Also the artist could write songs about their own personal life to also make a stronger connection between the artist and the audience.
However we try to help the artist sell them elf as a artist as well as selling their songs to a bigger record company to be able to be more known and visual.
Convention 1

Timberland Hands In The Air Ft Ne-Yo
During the duration of this music video the artist timberland and Ne-yo are consitantly appearing in the video this is to promote each artist to become bigger then they all ready are.

Throughout this video the artist is shown acting but not miming the song as the camera is often on the artist it promotes the artist so bigger record labels can pick the up.
B.o.B Strange clouds ft LiL Wayne
In this video the camera focus on the artist to promote them individually and to also promte their music.

As the video tarts the music stars straight away this also catch the viewers attention where as some video the sound trackwont start until 45seconds in.
Drake Take Care Ft Rihanna
As soon as this music video starts the soundtrack starts straight away this don’t keep the viewers waiting to hear the song also the soundtrack runs through the video so viewers don’t get bored.
LiL Wayne Mirror Ft Bruno Mars
As Soon As the video starts the soundtrack starts in beat of the camera movements and plays throughtout the whole video.
3rd Convention

Convention 4
The first convention is that throughout the video the artist is performing by dancing this could tell us a lot about the artist such as that Ne yo can not only sing but he can also dance throughout his video.
Throughout this video the main focus of this video is the performance which in this case is dancing this shows us that the artist chris brown also has a passion for dancing aswell as singing.
In this music video ed sheeran small bump the artist performs in this video by playing his gutair this highlights that ed sheeran can also play instruments also by playing his gutair it adds more passion to the song
Convention 5
Throughout this music video the locations in ne yo let me love you are changed the music video uses three different locations to maybe relate to the song and also they change locations so the music video wont look boring where as having different location could mix the song up.
In this music video one of the locations relate to the title of the song ‘written in the stars’ because the location is on top of a high building this could mean his closer to the stars the other locations tell a story about the lyrics of the song also the artist changes costume when location is changed.
In this video there are various locations to relate to the song also the location are dark to high light the title of the song All of the lights because light can be more seen in the night.
Convention 6
We can see in this video that as the location changes tinie tempeh costume changes to match the location he is in.
In the first seconds of the video Dr dre is wearing a tracksuit but as the location changes his clothing changes to relate to the location or what action dr dre is doing.
In this video the first couple of shots are in different locations and the artist has changed costumes this gives the music video a good vibe so the artist look suitable for the different locations.

it a better purpose to the song also the scene tells a story linked to the film this also gives it an older feel when the viewers watch it.
This video of Nicki minaj superbass is filmed in a studio to give the video a nice simple video to go along to the song.
When neyo is performing/dancing it has been filmed in a studio to give it a musical dance vibe.

In this video it shows a storyline/narrative to create a storyline to fit the purpose of the song
This music video has a storyline of teaching people to be invincible and if they cant do something to be determind and do what the cant do. Tinie tempah `invincable

The Kooks Naïve this use a variety of mid shots and close ups also different angles of where shots have been filmed
Red Hot Chilli Peppers they use long shots of whole band so you can identify all the band and also close ups
This video uses quick cutting to the beat the switching to each of the artist also close ups are key so we can see who they are.

During this video the use of the shot types like long shot of the location the close ups of the artist to show to the viewer who the artist is.
The filmers uses a different varity of camera shots such as mid shots and close ups of the artist
Throughout this video the use of close ups and high angled shots are effective also the use of camera movements are effective

The movement of usher slowly getting up is in time the beat and also all dance moves are in time with the beat
As ne yo dances each movement is in synch with the beat this makes the dancing flow woth the music each movements is in time with the clapping beat also the cutting of all the clips is fluent to the beat.

In parts of this music video slow motion is used to create a sexy atmosphere on the song and the viewers
In the first shot of the video slow mo is used to slowly track to the women on the bed to make a slick feeling.
In this video they use slow motion to pan around a young kid in the streets.


Styles
There are also many different styles of usic videos.
 One style is live videos where the artisit performs live in the video. this is usally used to rock videos because they play guitars and they perform on stage so the video shows that happening. An exmaple of this would be Guns and Roses, Welcome to the jungle where we see them performing on stage.
 Another style is animation. This is when they animate the video instead of having real people in it. An example of this style of video is the Gorillaz.
 Another style is narrative videos. These are videos that tell a story as well as having performances from the band. An example of that would be The Foo Fghters Walk, when the main singer has a story line about walking around town.
Another style is parody this is when the artist of the video is making fun of someone or something. For example in Blink 182, All the Small things, the band are making fun of  other pop bands.
Another style is homage which is when you are kind of giving a tribute to another artist or something else. You can see an example of homage in Chris Brown's video She Aint You  because he is dancing like Micahel Jackson and tributing him.
Pop music videos usually are very convention and have lots of different shot types and locations of the artist singing and performing. They are usuauly brightly coloured and portray the artist as fun.
Rock videos usually have darker colours in them and they have typical iconography of the rock genre like guitars and skulls. Rock Videos usually have lots of shots of the band performing.

feedback from client

my feedback from my client was simple I was asked to lengthen my advert out more as it was to short I also got asked to fix the music length and also was asked to put more clips in. I acted on this and I was straight back filming more clips to put in my advert this allowed more of an option for me to adit with.

Rough edit

in my rough edit I rushed it a tad knowing that is was a rough edit but I made more descisions to change various parts in my advert by replacing clips with clips I re filmed and also by re arranging clips in to different places so the flow of the advert was better and more effective.

edit decisions

the decisions i made for putting these in the order i wanted them to planned out a bit wrong as i found that some of the clips went in nicley in different places so therefore i changed them and added hm in a different slot in my advert.

these are my rushes logs which shows what clips i filmed and just a brief description on what is included in them.

Final edit

my final edit was succsesful due to the fact i improved all of the improvments my teacher gave me which were to extend the music, film more clips nd edit them into my ad and also to make the duration of the advert 30 seconds. i was able to do all this as whit me filming more clips this then made the advert 30 seconds and also i just needed to go into garageband and make my music longer.

Filming and Editing

when filming my advert i released i needed to shot more shots from different angles to give me more of a option to chose from. also when editing i was unable to film some shots due to the places not being open but i planned around this and filmed an alternative.

When editing my clips i felt that i needed to do something with the shot so therefore on final cut it allowed me to zoom into the main focus of the shot for example the football was the main focus of the shot. also when editing the music i found that i needed to drag out the sound for a bit longer just to cover the ending of the advert so i added a fade out so the music overlaps at the end.

Synopsis

Synopsis 1 the message im trying to get across to my target audience which are 16year olds is to join the football academy that glenthorne 6thform produce. the message is that you can enjoy your football at a high standard and also recieve the best education possible and also to create pathways for your son. the content of this will include training session, facilities and a talk through of what you will get out of the 2 years on this course. the style of this will be formal as i am persuading people to come to the 6thform and to join the football academy so i need to use formal persuasive language.

Synopsis 2 im trying to get across to my target audience which are 16year olds to come to glenthorne 6thform where we offer a football academy which i am trying to promote by making an advert to intrege people to join the football academy which is a 2 year course. there is a message that im trying to get across is that you can have the highest possible standard of education and also in one of the course you are playing football at a high competitive standard to and also at the end of the 2 years you have with us we will give you oppourtunities in football or to go on to coaching as you will undergo a coaching level 1 badge.


Synopsis 3 in this advert im trying to persuade people to join this academy project as the football being played is a high level and also there is loads of oppourtunities throughout the 2 years here and also at the end of the 2 years. in the ad i show the audience what sort of things we do at this academy and also what facilities e have to progress as a academy.

Production research consists of the content so who and what is going to be in the project , resources such as what equipment I will need the cost of equipment, viability so getting people to check if this is ok and lastly placement of advert which is when is a good time to advertise your ad. Market Research Summary


Summary of Market Research:

When doing market research I began to look at different schools linked to football academies such as Stanley park linked with Carshalton Football Club so straight away I knew by seeing the teams badge on the poster that it will be a high level and good standard of football.

I found out that the common features of these advertisements are to engage kids of the age of 16 to their academy and also to engage peoples parents to allow their kid to go to this 6thform and to do this course. Also the advertisement must show everything your going to be doing during your time at the 6thform and also show what subjects your child can chose. Also these advertisements needs to be formal as you are aiming it to the parents of the kids to persuade them to let their son join the academy. Im going to exploit this ad because there is a gap in the market for 6thform academies to promote our 6thform academy in a bigger better way. Also by doing this it will allow more people to find out about our 6thform.

Audience Profile
 – I will build up a picture of my audience by grafting together a little about themselves page and ask them what habits, hobies, likes and dislikes they have so I can have an understanding of what my target audience are about and how they are as an indivdual. Also this gives me a understanding of if im giving the handouts to the right people also I get to know a bit more about them as a person outside of school rather then inside of school.

Audience Awarness:

-My target audience will be aware if my academy because I will be handing out leaflets to tell them what the academy is and what it inisits of such as training days, match schedules and coaches qualification. The leaflet will also be published on the schools website so for anyone from outside of schools that would like to join the academy know what it insists of.

Media Preferences

My audience will be able to access my media such as a video of training in progress in one of the academy footballs matches or even a training session this will be effective to viewers because they can get a feel of the level of intensity that the training is and also the high of level of football being played.

Showing training facilities and also training sessions to show what standard of football is and also shows that you will get a good education around the football aswell. Also I will create a poster to post around the area to draw people attention in.

Evaluation of planning documents

Props, Costume,  - this tells me the props and costumes that are needed in my music video .  This will help any crew member why they need that prop and why they have to use different costumes in different locations.

Location Visit - The location visit sheet helped me decided what locations to use and why they would work in the music video and also to link the locations with the lyrics. i chose various locations this means i can chose alot for my music video this will allow me to cut in between the clips faster.


Treatment - My treatment helped me with everythng I neeeded. It reminds me the locations im using, the budget of the equipment etc and the layout of my music video. By  me creating a budget for my music video I will know how much roughly Im going to spend and need to put the music video together.

Proposal - In my proposal I explain what my music video is about. This planning document helped me create my storyboards and all other planning documents. By doing my proposal it made me write down what my music video is about .. When looking at the lyrics the phrase, "i think my reflextion is relitivly jelous of me thats all twittering on my apple" made me think that someone is on face time to thier selfs on and iphone and can just see thier reflextion. this will make a good shot as this links to the lyrics and also gives it a narative.

Risk Assessment - the  risk assessment will keep me safe from any accidents around me . By having a risk assessment I can keep aware for the dangers around where if I had to find the dangers on the day this would waste vital filming time.

these are my scanned rush logs that i have created to help me know what clips i have applyed into my music video and also what clips i havent used. i also explain why he clips are good or bad so i have a rough idea in what clips to pick and choose from when puting my music video together.

Evaluation Of Shooting Schedules

Shooting schedules guided me through my music video as it gave me ideas of what i needed to do in each shot and how long the shot was lasting for. this is an effective peice of planning as with this document it gives you a layout of how to set and record your music video. however if i found a more intresting location to film in i would film in this location and then go back to my storyboards and re arange/graft out a new shooting schedule for this location.
